Tim Duncan: A Breed of His Own

When Timothy Theodore Duncan came into the NBA, he helped change the destiny of The San Antonio Spurs. Equipped with tremendous fundamental style of play, great attitude and respect for teammates and coaches, He would always give his ALL. Every game, every practice and would later lead the San Antonio Spurs to greater heights...
Duncan was blessed with qualities that makes him a great player (height, grit, smarts, discipline and an array of post moves). But I think more than anything, Duncan separates himself from the rest because of his selfless play, unselfish attitude and will be most remembered by WINNING... during his era, the Spurs has already won 4 championship rings (1999, 2003, 2005 and 2007). He was named Season MVP twice and Finals MVP 3 times. In that run, even though he was not named MVP in 2007 you never hear him complain, in fact when asked if he would vote Tony Parker for Finals MVP, "he simply said yes as long as we win the title". That's Duncan, it's never about himself it's all about the TEAM, all he cares about is Winning.

Duncan is different from everybody else, I mean how many NBA stars have the same accomplishment that Duncan has, and yet is humble enough to admit their mistakes? Tim also carries himself with class on and off the court and has a great relationship with his Head coach (Gregg Popovich). No trade demands, no salary or playing time issues. It's his calm and quiet personality that stands out and that is why he is embraced and is respected highly by his teammates, He is their leader. He also quietly helps in the community and is a great role model for players and fans alike. His commitment to the team concept and dedication to winning is unmatched.

As it stands right now, Duncan remains the rock that keeps them steady and the drum that keeps on beating. Yes Tony has been great, Manu is well, Manu but Duncan is the foundation of the Spurs and it will remain that way for at least 2-3 years from now... You might say well he's 33 and has injuries the past season and the Spurs has been relying more on Manu and Tony...

I'd say this, Duncan knows whats at stake this upcoming season. When did you ever doubt his ability to deliver at crunch time? and There is NO QUIT in him. Yes he needs other guys to win it all and maybe more so this coming season. But when it's the last game in June, with the title on the line, believe me Duncan's HEART, WILL and DRIVE will make all the difference...

The man is pure amazing, but of course he would never give himself credit. he's the kind of player who should be role models for other players..even if they don't have as much talent as TD.

I certainly agree Bentley...

HOW BOUT A KG-TD IN THE 2010 FINALS? PLUS MCDYESS-SHEED MATCHUP? SOME KINDA 1995 DRAFT CLASS REUNION OF BIGMAN WITH THE ADDITION OF RATLIFF TO THE SPURS?? IT BETTER THAT A KOBE-LEBROB SHOWDOWN.

Anonymous, thanks for your comment... actually I'm planning to write an article about the contending teams for this upcoming season. So your questions might be answered thru that future article... KG-TD with 'Sheed and Dice in the Finals is certainly intriguing (I actually like it too)... Also you can instead use the Name/URL profile in your future comments... URL is not required, again thanks!
